Kansas City Zoo
The Kansas City Zoo is located in Swope Park at 6800 Zoo Drive. With more than 202 acres nestled inside valleys and rolling hills, the zoo hosts more than 1,000 animals. The Zoo is divided into several sections: Australia, Tiger Trail, KidZone that includes the Discovery Barn, Peek-A-Boo Tree and an Endangered Species Carousel and a 100 acre-Africa Plains. A new Tropics, an indoor rainforest, opens in 2009 and polar bears will return in 2010.
The Zoo also features a Sea Lion Show, Wild Wonders animal show, elephants painting and many other animal demonstrations. The education department offers camp outs, on-site as well as off-site classes and guided tours. Visitors can take a safari boat ride across the lake in the Zoo's African Plains area. You will see hoofstock, including zebra, giraffe and more. The Kansas City Zoo is open daily at 9:30 a.m. and closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Dec. 25.
