Historic Westport

Westport is one of Kansas City's premier destinations for dining, shopping, site seeing and is the heart of the city's nightlife. Located in the midtown, Westport is just north of the Country Club Plaza and the Kansas City Intercontinental Hotel and a few miles south of downtown Kansas City.

Before there was a Kansas City, there was a Westport. Built along the Santa Fe Trail as an outfitting center for wagon trains heading west, all three of the western trails - the California, the Oregon and the Santa Fe passed through the town on present day Westport Road. Prior to the Civil War, Westport prospered as the eastern portal of the western trails.

Today the area is filled with renovated and new buildings housing trendy shops, restaurants, and nightspots but the historical legacy of Old Westport remains with us. Although very little original frontier village is left, the heritage and history of the community is preserved.
